Guest Spotlight: Julie Ward

By Chef Danielle April 6th, 2010

I had the pleasure of being in the home of the Ward Family while Julie was preparing a Dream Dinners.  Most nights Julie comes home from work and prepares dinner with her two little boys playing around her.  It was such a joy to watch as the boys helped set the table as Julie prepared dinner.  She turned to me as she threw away her zip-lock bag and rinsed out her sauce pan “This is my favorite part.  That is all of my clean up!”  Even after working a long day she is able to get dinner on the table for her family of four (including two very energetic boys) in a snap.

I asked Julie a few questions about Dream Dinners and here is what she had to say.

#1 What surprised you most about Dream Dinners?
I was so surprised that Dream Dinners were so yummy!  The variety is great, enabling me to feed my family things they wouldn’t normally try (mostly because they are things I wouldn’t normally cook).

#2 What is your favorite dinnertime memory?
My favorite dinnertime memory is of my husband trying his hand at making dinner.  It was the fanciest grilled cheese I’ve ever had ;-)

#3 Why do feel it is important to eat together as a family?
For our family, dinner time is one of the only times we are consistently all together.  My husband’s two oldest kids live with their mom and so we don’t get to see them everyday, plus they have busy lives of their own with soccer and basketball games even when they do get to come to our house.  We make dinner together a priority on our busy calendars because sometimes that’s the only time we may all see eachother that day and this way we know we will get to have at least a few minutes of being all together for some quality time.

#4 What has been your favorite Dream Dinner?
Hmm, my favorite dream dinner…sorry, it’s too hard to narrow it down so I couldn’t honestly say!  But you’ll regularly find Calzones, Canadian Bacon stuffed french bread, Arroz con Pollo, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and various bags of chicken in some kind (ANY kind) of marinade in my freezer ;-)   My husband is often heard asking, ”Is this Dream Dinners chicken?  It’s really tender!”
Wrap Up
I used to think I hated cooking, but I’ve discovered that I actually don’t mind cooking, I just really, really dislike meal planning.  Hello Dream Dinners, goodbye frustrated, last-minute me.  It’s also incredibly comforting (and convenient) to have a dinner that’s quickly prepared and ready to eat in minutes that isn’t loaded with sodium and preservatives.
